Support NAACP, NOW, and our values by participating in NAACP’s Lobby Day next week!
Educate yourself or others:
Join the NAACP Portland, Eugene-Springfield, and Salem-Keizer branches on June 12, 2017 to advocate for racial equity in Oregon’s capitol. This is a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience in how the legislative process works and effectively make your voice heard.
In Salem, you will meet with leaders to gain support from on our focus bills. Our targets will be lobbying for SB 496, HB 2004 (a bill which has been compromised), and HB 2355 and more. Participating in this lobby day is a great way to directly take action to improve policies for all Oregonians. You don’t have to have any prior experience or knowledge to attend and participate!
Before you go, find your legislators at this link. The event organizers will help connect you to your electeds. NAACP volunteers will help guide you through the process during the bus ride.
Logistics for Portland (contact your branch for rides from Eugene!):
Bus pick-up: Maranatha Church 4222 NE 12th Ave.
Load up: 10:45AM
Departure: 11:00AM Sharp
Arrive State Capitol: 12:30PM
Return: Between 5 and 6pm.
Lunch and transportation from Portland to Salem will be provided free of cost, but making a donation to the NAACP Portland branch will help offset costs as well as investing in racial equality.
Plan to go! RSVP here, the day is free, but donations to offset costs are welcomed!
If you haven’t joined your local branch of the NAACP, do so today! When you sign up, make sure your donation is going to the closest branch to you to have the greatest impact. Choose from National, Portland, Eugene/Lane Co, and Salem-Keizer. These branches are really well organized and need your support.
